The Porto Metro runs underground throughout central Porto, and above ground connecting the city´s suburbs.
Having been only recently built (2002) the metro is modern and clean.
There are 5 lines -
Line A (Blue Line)
Line B (Red Line)
Line C (Green Line)
Line D (Yellow Line)
Line E (Violet Line)
The metro is the first in world to use a fully contactless ticketing system - there are no entry barriers or regular ticket inspections. Instead travellers purchase blue tickets (Andante Azul) from the vending machines in the stations which are then validated by scanning them in front of the yellow machines located in the stations.
A blue ticket allows for unlimited travel for 1 hour. These blue tickets can be recharged at the vending machines.
