A fashionable and upmarket harbour with excellent restaurants
Portimão - Miguel Veterano
Portimão´s location at the mouth of the river Arade, and close to the entrance into the Mediterranean, has made it an important harbour for seafarers since the age of the Phoeonecians.
Today the up-market marina dominates the river front, offering boat trips and fishing off the coast. Although quite popular with tourists, Portimão has retained it´s own character and has not been taken over by the tourist industry to the extent of other Algarve towns.
Whilst the bars and restaurants surrounding the marina can provide attractive views and good food, the finest seafood restaurants are located close to the old iron bridge spanning the harbour, with barbequed sardines being especially popular.
